Zion Hill Reserve

Zion Hill at the intersection of Onewa Road and Birkenhead Avenue was indicated by KLB as a possible site for public art so KPAT commissioned a conceptualisation project by prominent sculptor Marte Szirmay in order to understand the possibilities of the space.

KPAT started discussions with Council and became part of the Council’s Steering Group which used its selection process of advertising for expressions of interest, drawing up a shortlist of four artists and then selecting the final artist to be recommended to KLB.

The Steering Group comprises Public Arts Team and Parks, iwi representation and KPAT in consultation with Kaipatiki Local Board, Birkenhead Town Centre Association, Birkenhead Historical Society and transport authorities.
